EPA releases 2007 TRI data using Electronic Facility Data Release
To better inform communities about releases of toxic chemicals from industrial facilities in their area, EPA has announced the availability of the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) facility-level data for 2007. Enviro groups challenge coal company's attempt to degrade stream

Court grants vessel permit extension to EPA
In July, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court's decision to vacate the NPDES regulatory exclusion for discharges incidental to the normal operation of a vessel (40 C.F.R. 122.3(a)) as of September 30, 2008. Organizations receive $1.5M for brownfields training, research, and technical assistance

EPA adds 6, proposes 11 sites to Superfund list
The U.S. EPA is adding six new hazardous waste sites to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites. EPA is also proposing to add 11 other sites to the list. Superfund is the federal program that investigates and cleans up the most complex uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous waste sites in the country. To date, there have been 1,587 sites listed on the NPL. Of these sites, 329 sites have been deleted, resulting in 1,258 sites currently on the NPL...

Historic NH dam removal complete

ADEQ director announces grant to improve water quality in Graham County
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Director Steve Owens announced that ADEQ has awarded a $136,900 grant to Noland Ranch, northeast of Safford in Graham County, to improve water quality in the Bonita Creek and Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area. The funds will be used to rebuild an old 7.4-mile fence, which will prevent about 200 cattle from disturbing the soil in the Gila River and Bonita Creek sections of the about 36-square-mile area...

IDEM issues state water quality certification for pipeline
This week, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) issued a state water quality certification for the Rockies Express Pipeline, which will protect and ensure the quality of Indiana waterways and wetlands during construction activities.
